EV charging basics
What’s the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 charging?
Level 1 uses a standard 120V outlet and is slow. Level 2 uses 240V and is much faster—usually the best fit for daily EV ownership.
How fast is Level 2 charging at home?
It depends on your vehicle and charger settings, but Level 2 is generally overnight-friendly for typical Portland commuting and errands.

Panels & capacity
Will my home need a panel upgrade for Level 2 charging?
Not always. It depends on service size, existing loads, and breaker space. We assess capacity first, then recommend the safest path—including load management when appropriate.
Is a 100A panel enough for EV charging?
Sometimes, but many 100A homes are tight once you add EV charging and other electrification. We verify load calculations before recommending.
What is load management?
Load management limits EV charging current so your home does not exceed safe service capacity—useful when a panel upgrade isn’t immediate.
Older Portland homes
Is knob-and-tube wiring common in older Portland homes?

Troubleshooting
My charger says fault or overheat—what should I do?
Stop charging and contact an electrician. High-amperage faults should not be guessed at— we diagnose supply, connections, and equipment configuration.
Why does my breaker trip when I charge?
Common causes include undersized circuits, loose connections, shared loads, or charger configuration. We test systematically to find the root cause.
